Emergency
Management
Barrow County will provide for the protection of
the people and resources in the county in order to minimize damage, injury and loss of life resulting from any
type of disaster; provide for the continuity of government, and, provide for damage assessment and survey of
damage, private and public, resulting from such emergency.
Barrow County Emergency Management Agency's
Responsibilities:
• Preparing for, mitigating, responding to, and
recovering from all natural and technological disasters, as well as enemy and terrorist
attacks.
• Develop and maintain the County Emergency
Operations Plan.
• Coordinate the Local Emergency Planning
Committee (LEPC) which is responsible for the planning and maintenance of the chemical database for local
businesses.
• Prepare response and recovery plans by
providing protocols/checklists for the various acts of terrorism.
• Coordinate responder training on the many
different biological and chemical agents.
• Provide public education by disseminating
information through the media and public speaking engagements.
• Managing the County Emergency Operations Center
(EOC) in the event of an emergency or disaster.
• Coordinating the emergency backup
communications (ARES/RACES ham radio) operators.
• Chairing the Special Needs Task Force which
monitors and assists special needs population in the event of an emergency.
• Coordinates response with the American Red
Cross response to emergency/disaster incidents.
